Role Description:

The position is open to qualified post-graduate students and young professionals, and is designed to enable talented, creative, and entrepreneurial researchers to contribute meaningfully to the Middle East policy discussion and to join the Forum’s unique and rapidly growing network. The position is open to applicants from within and outside of the UK.

The Strategic Brief is a weekly update covering key events in the international, domestic and economics affairs of the Middle East and North Africa region from the past week complete with forward-looking analysis on what’s next, which is sent to subscribers via email on a weekly basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 3-4 hours of research, focused on strategically important developments in current affairs, primarily relating to political developments and major economic/fiscal policies per week covering Yemen, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
  • Producing high-quality and well-written research summaries
  • Participation in an online team meeting once a month

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant undergraduate degree
  • Advanced knowledge and interest in the Middle East and particularly the Arabic Gulf region and the current affairs of key Gulf states.
  • Proven experience engaging with politics of the region through previous research in a professional context or through an academic dissertation (completed or ongoing)
  • Demonstrable experience in research and political analysis
  • Arabic (at least reading comprehension)

The following would be great to have, but is not essential:

  • Fluency in Arabic
  • Post-graduate degree
  • experience living/working in the region
